Yesterday, I was awake for 21 hours, other than a brief nap on the plane. Today, I am exhausted and have a sore throat. The two are undoubtedly correlated. The weirdest thing about the flight is that the entire Chicago to Anchorage portion was done in twilight. Our plane landed at 11:15 p.m., and the sun had not set yet. The sun "sets" for about an hour but the sky never gets dark.

This morning we discovered that it is lilac season here, so I get lilac season twice this week. It sort of makes up for the strawberries I am missing; I picked a quart a day for 6 days before we left -- and yes, if you took chopped strawberries from a plastic mixing bowl at the Silber-Lefton party, those were from our yard -- but they vanished in about 20 minutes, so not too many people got them. There will be plenty of raspberries later in the summer, so if you are a berry fiend, don't worry :)

My brother, bless him, was at the airport waiting for us, even though we had rented a car (it is a GM version of a PT Cruiser, and way too big for us thanks to miscommunication between Ben, myself, and the rental company, but it's comfy.) Alan has grey hair at his temples now... which is very odd to me, but yesterday was his 38th birthday, so I should not be surprised. We ran into one of Victoria's sisters and her husband at the airport. Alan had tales of the mob of nieces and nephews. Vic has 3 siblings, all married, and hence two nephews and five nieces. Apparently their various parents were smart and got them all into the same daycamp for this week, so the parents can help the understandably nervous wedding couple. Vic and Alan plan to add to the mob ASAP after the wedding.
