My mother-in-law was just asked to interview for the position of...

... Director of the NIH's National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases Division of Intramural Research, overseeing a staff of 1300 (including 120 researchers) at labs in Maryland and Montana.

Thing is, she just retired after a long, successful, but not super-stellar career as a research immunologist at BU Medical School. She's moved to Vermont. Her (stunned that they'd tracked her down) reaction, "I really just want to spend time in my garden this summer."

You know, there's a reason I love this woman...

Don't worry; she's *retired*. But very classy, so she didn't tell them to go f*ck themselves. Just that she wasn't interested, thankyouverymuch.

She has no idea who recommended her for the job. And especially who complimented her "administrative skills" since as far as she can tell, she's rather impaired in that area!

So she's going to work on her garden instead.
