trapped by a.... turkey???

Ben and I were heading out tonight and I found this guy behind my car in the driveway:




This was one pissed-off turkey! He did NOT want to move. He did NOT want to let us move, either.

I backed the car out of the driveway very slowly, while he, behind us, moved back and forth and even pecked the car a couple of times! He kept up a loud series of fowl curses. I finally got the car into the street, where another car kindly waited for us to *very* slowly get turned in the correct direction. (Actually, I suspect the other driver was dying of the giggles!) Mr. Turkey was last seen crossing to the other side of the street.

(I have a feeling I know why he's pissed off. I've been seeing a hen turkey with two toms in close pursuit, and I think this guy finally lost the fight to Imprezz Teh Gurl. So he's sexually frustrated and taking it out on my car...)

When Brent and I were in West Virginia visiting a friend and wanted to go do some hiking.. we were warned about bears and rattlesnakes. We're up at the top of a looooong climb and we hear something crashing out of the woods towards us and it ends up being a damn turkey. Scared the shit out of us. Turkeys are sneaky. :P

Except I don't think turkeys count as fowl. IIRC, that's stuff like ducks and geese.

I will quote from Wiki:

"Many birds that are eaten by humans are fowl, including poultry such as chickens or turkeys, game birds such as pheasants or partridges, other wildfowl like guineafowl or peafowl, and waterfowl such as ducks or geese."

There are also 'Turkeyfowl', which might not be turkeys but the name is sufficient for punster purposes:

"When Europeans first encountered turkeys in the Americas they incorrectly identified the birds as a type of guineafowl (Numididae), also known as Turkey fowl (or Turkey hen and Turkey cock) from their importation to Central Europe through Turkey, and that name, shortened to just the name of the country, stuck as the name of the bird."


I realise that Wiki might not be the end-all be-all of Authoritative voice, but Webster's dictionary tells us that 'fowl' is a bird of any kind. I believe that turkeys are considered birds.
